Horry County continues pay scale talks for police officers, firefighters

Council also continued discussions Tuesday about how much to pay its police officers and firefighters.

Council previously passed a resolution to ask the county to develop a plan to implement a pay scale for public safety.

“What we’ve asked staff to do,” said Horry County Council Member Dennis DiSabato, “is to come back to us with what it would cost us to switch the public safety department from the current merit-based pay system that they’re on now to a pay scale which would take into account time served and rank.”

Some council members previously said pay raises could be paid for by the hospitality fee, which was used to pay off debt from the Ride I project.Council will further discuss the issue at an upcoming retreat.
