WEATHER ALERT: Tornado watch in effect for News13 area until midnight

(WBTW) – A storm warning is still in effect for the Grand Strand and Pee Dee areas, although all tornado warnings and watches expired.

Severe thunderstorms are likely this evening with the main hazard being a few strong, damaging wind gusts up to 75 mph.

Even outside of any storm activity, winds will be strong and gusty bringing in moisture and warm air from the south.

The main line of strong storms will arrive to the Pee Dee first from the west.

It is within this line that damaging wind gusts are possible. Trees could topple over, power outages are possible and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Staying weather aware this evening is critical as these storms move in. Have a way of receiving warnings if they are issued so you can move into your safe place.

All of this weather clears out for the weekend. Temps will be much cooler tomorrow with highs in the mid 60s. Highs on Easter Sunday will be back in the low to mid 70s. The warming trend continues next week with highs back in the 80s. Rain chances hold off until Thursday.
