A Weather Alert Day is in effect for today. Strong to severe storms are possible with damaging winds and hail being the main hazards. However, an isolated tornado still can’t be ruled out. Storm outlook has us in the “slight” risk for severe weather, which is level 2 out of 5.
We’ll have a few storms this morning that could be strong but next expected to be severe. A lot of plans today with Mothers Day. The severe threat will go up after 1pm. Here we’ll start to see scatered showes and storms developing in the Pee Dee.
Once we get to about 3pm the showers and storms will get a bit more strong to possibly severe. The highest threat for widespread and strongest storms will be from 4pm to 8 pm. Models are showing a broken line of storms developing over the eastern Carolinas in the afternoon. This line will progress towards the coast in the late afternoon to evening hours.
Again the main threats will be isolated damaging wind gust over 60mph, some hail and heavy downpours. The environment doesn’t really support a threat for Tornados, however, the threat could go up with we see more sunshine.
A cold front will slip offshore Monday afternoon and drop humidity levels and temps for Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs may be limited to the 70s both days with mostly sunny skies. Warmer air returns for the end of the week into the weekend but high pressure should keep us largely dry and quiet through Saturday.
