Rain returns to start the work week

Rain will move in this evening and continue off and on throughout the night as a warm front drifts north. The front will stall on Monday overhead but rain chances will taper off by Monday afternoon. A few showers could linger along the coast Monday evening but most areas will be on the drier side. Another round of rain is expected Tuesday with the potential for severe storms as a cold front approaches.

A large part of Tuesday should be dry. In late afternoon and evening hours, a line of strong storms will move in front the west. The strongest storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds and maybe a tornado or two. The highest threat will be along and west of I-95. The storms should be diminishing in strength moving towards the Grand Strand with the frontal boundary possibly stalling offshore.

High pressure briefly moves in on Wednesday with mostly sunny skies. By Thursday, the stalled boundary may drift back toward the coast. If it drifts far enough, showers will move back in for Thursday. Better chances for rain come back Friday as a stronger cold front moves in. Much cooler temperatures will arrive for next weekend behind that front.

Tonight: Cloudy, mild with rain. Lows 61 inland, 63 beaches.
Monday: Mostly cloudy with showers mainly in the morning. Highs 72 inland, 74 beaches.
Tuesday:: Strong storms possible late. Highs near 80.
