An arctic blast is on its way in to the Carolinas starting today through the first half of the week. Rain this morning is moving out and we’ll see clearing skies through the afternoon. As the skies clear, winds will pick up and shift towards the northwest allowing for temperatures to fall through the afternoon.
The bigger story will be the cold temperatures behind the rain. Winds will be gusty today as the dry, cold Canadian air rushes in. Temperatures will fall from the upper 50s this morning to the upper 40s by this afternoon with wind chills in the 30s. Temps will continue to fall through Monday morning into the mid to upper 20s with feels like temps in the low teens. Depsite clear skies and sunshine returning Monday, temps will only rise to near 40 degrees Monday afternoon with wind chills in the 20s and 30s all day.
Another cold night is forecast Monday night with morning lows on Tuesday in the mid 20s. A brief, but quick warming trend commences Tuesday afternoon. Highs Tuesday will rise into the mid and upper 40s but by Wednesday and Thursday, highs will be back in the low 60s. Rain chances also return Wednesday and Thursday as another storm system moves in. The air behind this storm system won’t be as cold, but will keep us below average for the weekend with highs in the mid and upper 40s.
