Thursday is a WEATHER ALERT DAY because of the moderate risk for severe thunderstorms.
The main threat from today’s storms will be strong straight-line winds, 40 mph – 70 mph possible. It will be hotter and windier today with most spots heating into the 90s and a heat index of 100°-102°.
A cold front late in the day will bring a line of strong to severe storms. Damaging wind is possible with gusts up to 70 mph. The timing is late in the afternoon from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the highest risk for the Pee Dee from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., crossing over I-95 around 6 p.m. Beaches timing is a little later, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The storms will push offshore tonight, and drier weather will move in for Friday into the weekend, but it will not be any cooler. Highs temperatures will stay in the low to mid-90s into next week.
