The Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet is normally busy with tourists on the weekend, but ahead of Hurricane Florence the area is nearly deserted, and the water eerily still.
Our Chris Spiker tells us there have been some gusts back and forth across the marsh but not to severe.
Joe Barth originally came down to the area for vacation from Idaho. His plans have now changed but he says he is willing to ride out the storm in Murrells Inlet.
“It doesn’t bother me at all.” Barth said “We’ll just batten the hatch. I’ll glue myself into a tub somewhere.” He laughed.
While the south strand will avoid some of the heavy storm surge that will be seen in North Carolina and parts of the north strand there will still be very serve conditions in Murrells Inlet.
In addition to all the restaurants and bars being boarded up the island which normally has goats grazing during the spring and summer. Those goats have also been evacuated from the marsh.
