AYNOR, SC (WBTW) – Zachary Malinowski’s mother says she knows exactly how her son would have wanted to spend his 23rd birthday – at the Olive Garden, eating his favorite pasta, like he did every year before he went missing in 20-13.Instead, Malinowski’s close friends and family gathered at Aynor Town Park on Saturday to celebrate Zachary on the exact day he would have turned 23.
Monica Caison of the CUE Center for Missing Persons also attended the memorial. Although it’s been three years, she says the search isn’t ending anytime soon. “Their journey hasn’t stopped. Anyone who says you can move on after you’ve suffered a missing loved one, and the person is still missing, you can’t,” she said.
Malinowski’s mother, Missy Jordan, says she was disheartened when she heard Javon Gibbs, one of the men charged in her son’s murder, was recently charged with murder and kidnapping in another case. Though Gibbs is back behind bars, the search for answers in Zachary’s death continues. And Caison is calling on the public’s help, especially during this time of year. “Every holiday is horrible for families of the missing. Especially Missy. She has one child and he’s missing. If there’s anyone out there with a heart, anyone out there that knows something that hasn’t come forward yet, help bring some sort of resolve to this mother, let her bring her son home.”
