MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW/WAVY) – A woman who admits she shot a Virginia State Trooper because she didn’t want to go to jail is charged with crimes out of Myrtle Beach.
According to arrest warrants from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Karisa Daniels is charged with two counts each of armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Warrants detail how Daniels entered the Ocean Dunes Resort, located at 201 75th Avenue North, on Sept. 10, 2017, and held the hotel clerk at gunpoint. Daniels told the clerk if she gave up all the money she wouldn’t get hurt, the warrant states. Daniels was given $400 in cash from the hotel register.
Nine days after allegedly robbing the Myrtle Beach hotel clerk at gunpoint, Daniels shot a state trooper in Virginia.
In May 2018, Daniels was sentenced to 46 years in jail for shooting Senior Trooper C.A. Putnam in the arm when he pulled her over for speeding.
“I turned around and I shot him and that is the worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life,” Daniels told 8News Reporter Kristin Smith during a jailhouse interview less than 24 hours after the crime.
“I don’t do things like this,” she cried, “This is not who I am.”
At a minimum, her attorney says Daniels will serve close to 40 years of that sentence which is far less than the life sentence the state suggested.
Daniels will be in Myrtle Beach bond court Friday morning at 9 a.m.
