DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – The person shot by Darlington County deputies late Sunday has died, according to Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee.

According to Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Edna St. because a person was trying to harm them self. When authorities got to the home a person met deputies with a large serrated knife. Deputies shot that person, and the female was taken to the hospital.

The coroner says an autopsy has been planned for Tuesday. The woman’s name has not yet been released.

Sheriff Tony Chavis requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate what happened.

Lt. Kilgo with the sheriff’s office confirms the deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending SLED’s investigation, per normal protocol.
