Woman planted Cricket in food to get free meal, police say

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) – Police in North Carolina say a woman tried to score a free meal at a restaurant by planting a cricket on her plate.

Media outlets report 26-year-old Shatanya Arielette Beasley of Charlotte complained about a cricket in her food, but investigators say when Beasley left her wallet on the table, a restaurant manager said he saw a bag of crickets in it. The woman and her son left without paying, and police said an employee wrote down her license plate number.

Beasley was arrested Friday for felony obtaining property by false pretense, but the manager said he no longer wants to press charges because she returned to pay the tab. Because warrants were served, he has to call the district attorney or go to court to get the charge dropped.
