Woman hits husband after he refuses to remove Confederate flag, deputies say

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. (WFLA) – A Safety Harbor woman is charged with domestic battery after deputies say an argument about a Confederate flag turned violent.

Deputies say Margaret “Peggy” Rae Carpenter and her husband Larry were arguing about a Confederate flag that Larry had put up on Saturday afternoon. Margaret kept asking her husband to take down the flag, but he refused.

Margaret admitted to hitting her husband, according to deputies. Larry Carpenter was injured during the argument. Deputies say bracelets that Margaret was wearing cut Larry when she allegedly hit him.

Margaret Carpenter was arrested on one count of domestic battery and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday afternoon. She was released from jail the next day after posting bond.
