FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A California woman was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to three counts of intentonally conveying false and misleading information. A press release from the US Attorney’s Office says the charges are connected to false claims of explosive devices placed at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.
Michelle Bryant of Mision Viejo, California was sentenced to two years in federal prison. Bryant has also been ordered to pay the Horry County Airport Authority $12,822 in restitution for the airport’s purchase of a full time bomb dog and trained handler. According to the release, the airport brought the dog team on to “deal with this case and to protect future visitors.”
Bryant told officials she called in the threats because of a “failed relationship” with someone who had ties to the airport.
Despite only being convicted of three counts of conveying false and misleading information, Bryant reportedly called in five bomb threats between March 2017 and August 2017. She was caught after investigators obtained records from an internaitonal telecommunications company and conducted several interviews. Bryant was identifed as a potential suspect in February of 2018 and admitted to making the threats when she was confronted by law enforcement at her California home.
