MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Sheriff’s Office arrested one woman from Surfside Beach Monday in connection to a child cruelty incident that happened in July.
Booking reports show that 41-year-old Melanie Rene Whitt was arrested just before noon Monday and charged with cruelty to children.
On July 12, officers responded to a home on Portsmith Drive in reference to an assault. According to the incident report, the suspect was intoxicated earlier that evening and pushed the victim, who was 15, to the ground, kicked her in the stomach and grabbed her by the arms, leaving red marks.
In the reports, officers reportedly observed scratches on the victim’s face and arms.
Whitt is currently being held at the J Reuben Long Detention Center. No bail has been set yet.
