GOLDSBORO, NC — A Cary woman was arrested by Goldsboro Police, but escaped from a police car and was found three days later still wearing handcuffs, officials say.
The incident began on Saturday around 3:30 a.m. when Christina Jean Manchester, 32, of Ivey Lane in Cary was arrested in Wayne County during a traffic stop, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in an email.
“Manchester was operating a stolen Honda Accord and provided fictitious information regarding her name and date of birth to Deputy M. Sellers during the course of the traffic stop,” Wayne County officials said.
“Once arrested, Ms. Manchester was placed in the rear of a patrol car with her hands handcuffed behind her back and seat belted in,” officials said.
“As evidence was being gathered from the stolen car Ms. Manchester was able to escape from the patrol car by climbing into the front seat and exiting through the drivers-side door,” officials added.
On Tuesday around 4:53 p.m. Goldsboro Police arrested Manchester without incident at 811-B Seaboard Street in Goldsboro.
“Ms. Manchester, who was still wearing handcuffs, sustained injuries during her escape on (Saturday) and as a result was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment,” deputies said.
Manchester is facing the following charges: Wake County: Probation Violation/ Larceny; Wayne County: Possession of drug paraphernalia – two counts (misdemeanor), possession of a schedule I controlled substance – two counts (felony), identity theft (felony), larceny of a motor vehicle (felony), possession of a stolen motor vehicle (felony), possession of a schedule II controlled substance (felony), larceny (misdemeanor), driving while license revoked (misdemeanor), resisting a public officer (misdemeanor), possession of stolen goods (misdemeanor), fictitious info to officer (misdemeanor), and failure to dim headlamps.
Following release from the hospital, Manchester was taken to the Wayne County Jail, where she is being held on a $35,000 bond.
