One woman has died after an exchange of gunfire with Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputies according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office tells us the incident happened at around 8:45 Saturday morning on Clyde School Road. The woman was walking erratically in a yard when a person stopped to check on her. She told that person that her father had been shot. The individual called 911 and deputies were dispatched.
Before deputies arrived the woman pulled out a gun and pointed it at the person who had stopped and demanded him out of the car.
When deputies arrived the woman pointed her gun at them, there was an exchange of gunfire. The woman was struck and deputies were able to get the gun away from her.
No deputies were injured in the exchange.
Upon investigation it was found that the woman’s father had not been shot and was not even home at the time.
Darlington County Sheriff Tony Chavis has asked SLED to investigate the incident. SLED is on route to the scene.
An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday. No information about the woman’s identity will be released as SLED investigates.
