Woman charged with having gun at Myrtle Beach Airport checkpoint

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Conway woman was arrested for having a gun while going through the TSA checkpoint at the Myrtle Beach Airport, according to a police report.

Muriel Mendonca Sharpe, 30, was detained by airport security on Thursday after a TSA supervisor observed a firearm and a loaded magazine on the X-ray machine in her bag, police said.

Once inside the TSA private screen room, Sharpe told police there was a firearm in her bag when she was asked.  She gave police consent to go into her bag to retrieve the gun, which police say was a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 380. Also, inside a case in the bag was a black-and-silver, six-round magazine that contained six rounds of .380 auto, police reported.

The gun was not loaded.

Sharpe was charged with carrying a weapon in a restricted place.  She was booked and released on a $500 bond.
