APPLETON, W.I. – A dying teen’s wish of becoming prom queen came true Friday, after friends and family held a special dance in her honor.
14-year-old Jerika Bolen suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, and has already endured 30 operations and spends 12 hours a day hooked up to a ventilator.
After her last surgery, Bolen decided the pain was too much, and wants her ventilator removed at the end of the summer. She was shocked when she saw how many people came out to her special dance.
“I thought it was gonna be kinda low-key, but it’s really awesome,” she said.
Bolen’s mother said while it is difficult to let her daughter go, she will honor Jerika’s wish, and remove the ventilator at the end of August.
The dance was titled “J’s Last Dance.”
