Windy Hill Fire Station expected to open mid-August

QUINBY, SC (WBTW) – Windy Hill Fire Chief, John Delung said there was only one bump on the way to finishing the new fire station.

“The only problem we’ve really had was right in front of the property there’s a AT&T fiber optic line,” said Chief Delung.

Earlier this year Florence County officials approved hiring more firefighters.

Chief Delung explains, “[more firefighters] will give us four people on a shift, we’ll probably hire those people in mid-August.”

Additional firefighters will protect the town of Quniby and parts of Florence at all times of the day.

“We’ll have at least two full time fire fighters manning the station 24 hours a day,” said Chief Delung.

The updated building has more room for first responders to work…as well as rest for the next call.

“This new station, we had to build a dorm for live in’s. The volunteers have a room to live also.”

After the construction phase, the department will move from the old station across the street.

“After they finish construction, we still have a little work to do after the fact. We still have to more furniture.” Chief Delung said.
