FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – Wilson High School in Florence celebrated ‘150 years of excellence’this weekend.
They started the celebration Saturday with a parade. Classes ranging as far back as class of 1936 were apart of the action.
After the parade was the ‘Tiger Fest’ at Florence Memorial Stadium.
Each year the Wilson High homecoming celebration is one big reunion and this year was no different.
The celebration was postponed for Hurricane Matthew but still drew a large crowd to celebrate “150” years of graduating generation after generation.
Bernard Robinson, Wilson High School Class of ’55, “It means the world to me because I get a chance to see people I haven’t seen in 50 years. I started coming with my brother and my friend back in 2005 and I’ve been here ever since. My brother and my friend are gone… But I still come.”
Wilson High graduates say the unity and family- like bond is what makes homecoming so special.
Helen Sims, Wilson High School Class of ’60, said “Our class stuck together since we graduated over 56 years ago. We’ve gone in different directions. But when we need to come together… we come together.”
“Wilson is a family, we support each other.” Sims adds.
Graduates say each year is bigger, they expect next year to be even bigger.
