LATTA – Coaching in Latta was a great fit for Kelly Williamson the last four years. After all, he is a Dillon County native. But on Wednesday, he accepted the head coaching job at West Brunswick (N.C.) High School to be closer to his current home.
Williamson has lived in Ocean Isle, N.C. the last few years, and his commute from there to Latta each day was about 80 miles. It will be significantly shorter with his new position.
The distance didn’t stop Williamson from building Latta into a winner, though. He inherited a team that hadn’t made the playoffs since 2003. Williamson took the Vikings there by his third season. The Vikings made the postseason in 2013 and 2014.
