KINGSTREE, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a car hit and killed a person in a wheelchair in Williamsburg County on Tuesday. Cpl. Sonny Collins says the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 52/Longstreet Street, just north of Kingstree.
Cpl. Collins said a person in a wheelchair was crossing the highway when a 1992 Honda Accord hit the wheelchair. Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight identified the victim as Richard Barley, 85.
The driver of the car will not be charged because the person in the wheelchair was illegally crossing the road, Cpl. Collins said.
