Many health care professionals work while they are sick according to a new survey from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. 83 percent of doctors, physicians assistants and nurse practitioners admitted to being ill at work at least once in the past year, even though they knew doing so could put patients at risk. Many said they did not want to let their co-workers or patients down, according to JAMA Pediatrics, MedDay and CBS.
Stroke
Very small brain lesions can triple the risk for stroke and death even among patients with no history of stroke. Thats according to a new study in Annals of Internal Medicine. Having both very small and large lesions increases the risk even more, according to Annals of Internal Medicine, MedDay and CBS.
Heart disease
A new study shows heart disease is the reason men have a shorter life expectancy than women. Researchers from the University of Southern California say a global review points to cardiovascular disease as the cause of most excess deaths in adult men, especially during middle age and early on in the senior years. The authors say more studies are needed to figure out why heart disease impacts men so much more than women, according to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, MedDay and CBS.
