COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – As much as men may be sweating about what to give the women in their lives for Valentine’s Day, it may be even tougher for women buying for men. What do men want for Valentine’s Day? “I have no idea,” says University of South Carolina student Melvis George. Several men we asked said they have no idea either.

Adrian Neese of Columbia says clothes, maybe a shirt? “My wife got me tickets to Garth Brooks tomorrow in Charleston, so that was a good surprise,” he says.

“We do have a lot of women coming in shopping for men and wondering, you know, ‘What am I going to get him?'” says Martha Studstill, owner of Uptown Gifts in Columbia. She has a section of the store with nothing but gift ideas for men.

She says most men love candy as much as women do, so that’s always a staple. Other food-based ideas include wine, craft beers, flavored coffees, and special snacks like nuts or yogurt-covered pretzels.

In her store, she has a pint glass made of metal, so it’ll keep your beer cold, and the glass has a bottle opener built-in to the bottom. The store can personalize the glass as well.

And there are Clemson and USC barbecue aprons that have a built-in cooler pocket that will hold a bottle or can, a bottle opener attached to the apron’s waist on a retractable cord, and a towel holder on the side.

There are books about Clemson or USC, and books about his favorite sports teams are also good options, along with any other books he would find interesting.

Uptown Gifts also has monogrammed toiletry bags, travel grooming kits, decorative bottle openers, Palmetto tree cufflinks, barbecue tools, and a dresser caddy to hold a man’s loose change, watch, wallet, and cell phone.

Other ideas: electronics; music; sporting goods; hobby accessories for things like hunting or fishing; and gift cards to his favorite restaurants or for a movie.

When asked what men want for Valentine’s Day, Ashley Malloy said it doesn’t really matter what you buy them. “I think they probably just want what everyone wants, to know that someone cares about them,” she said.
