FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A West Florence High School student was arrested Friday morning after officials located a loaded gun inside a vehicle.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies arrested Nicholas Eugene Flowers, 18, of Florence, and charged him with bringing a firearm onto school premises. Major Mike Nunn with the sheriff’s office says the handgun was found inside a parked car at the school.

Florence School District One Spokesperson Pam Little-McDaniel did not release details surrounding the discovery of the weapon.

“This is an isolated event and we are following our regular schedule,” reports Little-McDaniel of the gun found on the campus of West Florence High School.

The district says the school is not on lockdown.

The discovery of the loaded gun comes just two days after another student was taken into police custody for having a loaded magazine clip in his possession. Following the discovery Wednesday, the high school was placed on lockdown, spurring roughly 50 parents to go to the school to pick up their children.

“As we have consistently stated, FCSO will have a zero tolerance for bringing a weapon to school,” Chief Deputy Glen Kirby stated. “We will continue to work closely with Florence School District One to make our schools safe for all of our children.”

Flowers will be held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
