DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW) – Albert “Juny” James Jr., a prominent Darlington attorney, died Saturday in a wreck, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
The car James was driving struck another car at the corner of Woods Street and East Hampton Street in Darlington, Hardee said.
James was 99, just 15 days shy of turning 100 when he died. He was a well-known lawyer in the Pee Dee and entire state for most of his life.
“He was a great man and a true credit to Darlington, the Pee Dee and the state of South Carolina for almost a century,” Hardee added. “He was a good friend to all, and that certainly includes this Coroner.”
The wreck that claimed James’ life remains under investigation by the Darlington City Police Department and the Coroner’s Office.
“I think that we have lost one of the giants in our society today,” commented State Senator Gerald Malloy, a Democrat who represents District 29 (Chesterfield, Darlington, Lee & Marlboro Counties). “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, particularly those that we practice law with Albert and Jay.”
