MYRTLE BEACH, SC-    Heartland Hospice is offering a series of workshops geared toward helping veterans and their families cope with stress. The weekly discussions kicked off Monday afternoon at the Veterans Cafe and Grill.

“They have a whole different set of things that they deal with,” said Chaplain John Boyce.

Boyce led Monday’s discussion, which centered on compassion fatigue. He said veterans will often internalize their issues and sometimes it helps to talk it out.

“I’ve seen the healing that takes place, where they relive and recount all of the things that they had to do,” he said.

Boyce also said sharing stories with other veterans can be therapeutic.

“They can talk about these things without feeling judged.”
