Weapon of mass destruction charges filed against pair with sawed-off shotgun

RALEIGH, N.C.  – A 17-year-old and 20-year-old are facing weapons charges, including possession of a weapon of mass destruction, according to arrest records.

Raleigh Police officers responded to a report of shots being fired near the 2800 block of West Millbrook Road. When officers arrived, they located Bryce Hoover, 17, and Kyle Mehlman, 20.

Police said the two were in possession of a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition for it. Police said the two fired the shotgun in a nearby wooded area.

Hoover and Mehlman were arrested on Saturday, April 23. Hoover was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, discharge of a firearm in city limits and other weapons charges.

Mehlman was charged with simple possession of controlled substances and possession of a weapon of mass destruction as well as other weapons charges.
