OWENSBORO, KY – A Kentucky man is recovering from severe burns after he says an e-cigarette exploded in his pocket.
A surveillance video shows an Owensboro resident, John Hamilton, is seen making a quick stop to buy snacks at a gas station.
As Hamilton walks over to the cashier to pay, he says an e-cigarette battery in his pocket explodes.
Hamilton runs outside the door, past an employee, and struggles to get his burning pants off, according to CNN.
The employee says he wasn’t sure what was going on when he saw Hamilton on fire. He runs from behind the counter where he sprays Hamilton with a fire extinguisher, CNN reports.
Hamilton says he has second degree burns on his leg and is able to walk.
