DILLON, SC (WBTW) – The official results are in after the Dillon City Council election Tuesday.
Voting officials confirm James Bobie Washington overwhelmingly won in the polls with 151 votes. Jerry Lee Mclain had 6 votes and Billy Coach Odom took 20.
Washington was in office until March, but a gambling conviction forced him to step down. Today, he ran to fill the very same seat he vacated.
The election ran from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. While Washington won a majority of both in-person and absentee votes, absentee voting played a large roll in the final numbers. A breakdown of in-person and absentee voting follows:
CANDIDATE | ABSENTEE VOTES | IN-PERSON VOTES | TOTAL |
Jerry McLain | 0 | 6 | 6 |
Billy “Coach” Odom | 6 | 14 | 20 |
