MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Arrest warrants for a Loris man charged with murder suggest the shooting was a result of a drug deal gone wrong.
Javaline Dawkins, 42, of Loris, is been charged with murder, kidnapping and weapons charges in connection with the Wednesday night murder of Ryan Rasheed Bryant, 27, of Columbus County, North Carolina.
The arrest warrant says Dawkins knew Bryant, and planned to meet him Wednesday night for a drug trade. The warrant does not specify if Dawkins was buying or selling the narcotics.
According to witnesses and city surveillance cameras, during the drug trade meeting, Dawkins kidnapped Bryant, shot and killed him.
According to Captain Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers responded to the area of 29th Avenue North and Bypass 17 just after 9 p.m. Wednesday following the shooting.
Capt. Crosby says officers who arrived on scene performed CPR on Bryant in an effort to save his life. Bryant was transported to the hospital, where he later died, says Capt. Crosby.
Dawkins remains in jail at the time of this posting, according to online booking records.
