DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – A new 125,000 square foot Walmart Supercenter in Darlington opened its doors Wednesday morning.

The new store is located near intersection of Highway 52 and the Highway 52 Bypass.

The store has 60,000 square-feet for grocery and the remainder for lawn and garden, pharmacy, clothing, electronics, toys and much more.

There are three Walmart stores in Florence alone, with Hartsville being home to the only Walmart in Darlington County.

The 122,000 square foot Supercenter will include a gas station and offer a full-service pharmacy and vision care clinic as well as an indoor restaurant. But store manager Kevin Lane can’t tell us what that is just yet.

The grand opening invited Darlington Mayor Gloria Hines, city council members and performances by Darlington High School’s chorus and marching band.

Darlington Mayor Gloria Hines says the new store means the city is just one step closer from being underdeveloped.

“We’re excited to have our own Walmart. We don’t have to go to Hartsville and we don’t have to go to Florence. It’s in walking distance from my salon. We’re just so excited. I feel like a child getting a new toy for the first time,” said Hines.

The Walmart Supercenter will be open 24 hours.
