If you live in the Murrells Inlet-Garden City fire district, you can vote on a referendum March 17, 2015.
If the vote passes, it would raise property taxes to help pay for additional fire services and a new fire station.
Voters can go to their regular precincts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on March 17 to cast their vote.
In February, the Murrells Inlet-Garden City fire district announced it got a better ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating.
The district now has an ISO of 2 down from a 3. A “1” is the best a district can have.
The rating puts the district in the top 3% nationally.
Only 60 fire departments in the nation are classed as a 1.
The new rating will be effective May 1, 2015.
The better classification would mean lower fire insurance premiums.
If the district votes to build the new fire station on McDowell Shortcut road in Murrells Inlet, the insurance premiums will decrease.
