A volunteer firefighter who’s touched the hearts of many in the Grand Strand received a special surprise on Sunday.

Roy Luther is a volunteer firefighter with the Surfside Beach Fire Department. He also has cerebral palsy. On Sunday, the Raging Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club surprised Roy at his home in Myrtle Beach and pronounced him an honorary member of the club.

Raging Knights members are based in New York and Connecticut. They first met Roy last Mother’s Day, when they came down to donate $1,700 to help him get a new electric-powered wheelchair. Luther received the new wheelchair in September.

“I have never been prouder to have an honorary member such as Roy. His smile, his spirit, his love of others is the embodiment of what our club is. Being there for everybody all the time,” said AJ Boraski, International President of the Raging Knights Firefighter Motorcycle Club.

Along with naming him an honorary member, the Raging Knights also gave Roy a special firefighter uniform shirt, with his club nickname – Hot Wheels – embroidered on the front. The motorcycle club received permission from the Surfside Fire Chief for Roy to wear the shirt while working at the firehouse.

“I’m going to be stylin! Stylin in this! It’s wonderful. I’m going to wear this proudly. And you know, every time I put this on, I’ll think of my brothers and sisters who sacrificed for me,” said Luther.
