A local nonprofit worked to bring awareness to addiction, and get help for those struggling with addiction on Saturday.
Voices of Recovery held a Walk for Recovery fundraiser in Downtown Myrtle Beach. The walk started at Fresh Brewed Coffee House and then looped around the Superblock.
Voices of Recovery also invited several rehabilitation organizations to the event, including Shoreline Behavioral Health, and Oxford Houses of South Carolina. Representatives from Soba College Recovery, which is based in New Jersey, also attended and offered to help cover rehabilitation expenses.
“Any addict given love and opportunity can recover. And sometimes the opportunity isn’t there, and these young men are offering an opportunity today, ” said Voices of Recovery Vice President Noreen Beck.
All the money raised through the Walk for Recovery will help admit people struggling with addiction into local halfway houses.
