VIDEO: US Postal Service truck goes up in flames

WAKE FOREST, NC – A postal service truck was heavily damaged when it caught fire Tuesday while delivering packages in Wake Forest.

Just after 7 a.m., the United States Postal Service truck caught fire near the intersection of Heritage Lake Road and Heritage Heights.

Wake Forest fire fighters had the fire extinguished by 7:10 a.m., officials said.

The driver made it out and was able to save most of the on board packages, officials said.

“Her first thought was that it was Christmas, people were waiting on those packages and that was her priority and I think its really neat that she cared so much about you know, it was heart, it was touching to me to experience that,” said neighbor Robin Manzo.

The fire started in the truck’s engine department.

The USPS released a statement that said:

Fortunately our carrier was not injured and only a small amount of packages got wet due to firefighters’ efforts to save the vehicle. Those packages will be returned to the shipper today for repackaging and delivered this week. We are grateful for the quick response of the fire department.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
