FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Among all of the water rescues on Saturday, one was caught on video by Fayetteville Police and had more than 1.4 million views on Facebook.
The rescue shows a woman in a flooded area of Robeson Drive near MLK Highway around 6 p.m. in Fayetteville.
Police were driving around in a special military vehicle that is able to drive through high waters when they discovered the woman — who also had a baby with her.
The mom told police that the driver left her along with the baby in the flooded car. On the video, the police vehicle backs up to the car and the baby is plucked from the woman’s arms.
The woman was then able to climb into the truck.
In Fayetteville overall, Emergency first-responders confirm four people are unaccounted for in the city due to high water.
As of 9 p.m., there were 96 swift water rescues and 424 people have been rescued in Cumberland County.
At 9 p.m. there are 500 service calls pending for fire/emergency services and those calls are prioritized based upon life-threatening needs.
Weather officials said just before 4 p.m. Saturday that 13.4 inches of rain had fallen at the Fayetteville Airport in the last 24 hours.
Also, Fayetteville had the highest winds in the region with a 62 mph gust clocked around 3 p.m. Saturday.
