AUSTIN (KXAN) — A multi-vehicle crash involving a dump truck carrying gravel has Farm to Market 2222 at Jester Boulevard down to one lane in each direction.
Austin police say the four-vehicle crash happened just before 9 a.m. Initial information indicates the dump truck, owned by Franco’s Trucking Sand and Gravel, ran off the roadway and fell down to the grassy area below the overpass and one vehicle slammed into a utility pole.
Glen Bandel says his wife was driving on Jester Boulevard when the dash camera in the car captured the gravel truck barreling down Jester Boulevard and into a Honda waiting to turn at the red light. The truck then moved through the intersection and clipped several more vehicles before it went off the bridge.
The owner of the gravel truck, Marco Franco, says his driver was delivering a load from Georgetown to a location on Jester Boulevard when the crash happened. Franco says he doesn’t know what might have caused the crash but says he personally checks the truck’s lights, brakes, water and oil–as he does every week. A search of U.S. DOT records shows no prior crashes reported to U.S. DOT for Franco’s Trucking.
Austin-Travis County EMS says four patients were transported with non-life threatening injuries.
The debris from the crash wasn’t completely removed until 7 p.m.
