DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – South Carolina Highway Patrol confirms that two people have died as a result of a car accident in Darlington Monday afternoon.

Cpl. Sonny Collins with highway patrol says the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. near the Mayflower Restaurant at the intersection of Pinedale Drive and SC-34. The crash occurred when a Dodge Caravan crossed the median and ran into oncoming traffic, striking a Suburban head on.

There were four people in the Suburban, all of which were transported to the hospital.

The Caravan had three passengers, none of which were wearing seat belts. The driver and one of the passengers were killed and the remaining passenger was taken to the hospital.

Darlington County Coroner, J Todd Hardee identified the two people killed as Latosha Irene Johnson, 20, and her mother, Carol Johnson, 47, both of Rosedale, NY.

This crash remains under investigation by SCHP, MAIT & Darlington County Coroner’s Office.
