NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – An arrest has been made after a motorcyclist was killed in a car crash in North Myrtle Beach Thursday evening.

North Myrtle Beach Public Information Officer Pat Dowling says officers responded to 13th Ave North and US 17 just after 6:30 p.m. for a report of a motorcycle accident. Upon arrival, officers found the motorcyclist unresponsive, laying on the ground in the northbound lanes. A passerby, a physicians assistant at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, stopped and rendered aid until medics arrived.

When the medics arrived, the motorcycle driver, later identified as 49-year-old Raye Farrar, of North Myrtle Beach, was declared deceased at the scene.

Dowling says witnesses reported to police that the driver of a white Mazda, identified as 30-year-old Donelle Marie Spivey, of Charlotte, NC, tried to make a U-turn from the second lane, cutting of Farrar, who was traveling in the first lane, causing the crash.

Spivey told officers she was setting up her GPS when it indicated that she should make a U-turn. She stated that the motorcycle tried to pass her and ran off the road, Dowling reports.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Spivey does not have a valid driver’s license and does not have auto insurance. She was charged with driving under suspension second offense, uninsured vehicle, expired registration, and unlawful lane change. Spivey was booked into J. Reuben Long at 8:07 p.m. Thursday and was granted a $1,967.50 bond. She remains behind bars at the time of this update Friday morning.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge advised that an autopsy would be conducted Friday afternoon to determine a cause of death.
