Using Cell Phones During Severe Weather

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) When severe weather strikes the conveniences we have come to rely on heavily can suddenly become unavailable.

HTC is no longer responsible for the generators or power to the tower sites. Those are under the direction of their wireless partner AT&T. HTC does maintain all of the network connections to these sites and many others beyond AT&T. They say they have over 50 generators that are deployed to key network locations in the event of storms and/or outages.

“We recommend that people keep those land lines and have a traditionally wall mounted phone available simply because those lines are powered and backed up,” HTC Senior Marketing Coordinator Nicole Hyman said.

Although we have become accustomed to using our phones for everything in our lives Nicole says in the event of severe weather it’s important to keep those towers and lines as open as possible.

“Don’t make a phone call unless it’s an emergency,” Hyman said. “We want to make sure that emergency personal have access to those lines first.”
