COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A coroner says an 18-year-old University of South Carolina student found dead in an off-campus home had four times the legal limit of alcohol in his body.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Charles Terreni Jr. had a blood alcohol level of .375 and that’s what caused his death. He was found the morning after St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday often marked with boozy parties.
Watts says Terreni was a freshman and lived on campus.
The national Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity said last month that the university chapter has been suspended and is cooperating with all investigations into the death. Colombia police continue their investigation.
Terreni was the son of Columbia attorney Charles Terreni, who worked for former Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler and as a former state Public Service Commissioner.
