A University of South Carolina fraternity is on administrative suspension following the death of a student Wednesday morning.

The Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Coroner’s office are both investigating the death of the student, who was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, also known as PIKE.

Coroner Gary Watts says the student was found around 10:30 a.m. at a home on Lee Street.

Officers say the death is suspicious, but that there are no signs of foul play or trauma.

The student has not been identified. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The university released the following info to the media:

“The Richland County Coroner and Columbia Police Department are investigating the tragic off-campus death of a USC student. However, we are not able to confirm the identity of the deceased until the coroner makes official notification. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased. The university is offering support services to any in our community who need it.

“There are a lot of rumors out there about the circumstances surrounding the death but at this point the matter remains under investigation. While we await further information we are focused on helping our community grieve and heal.
