Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach was closed Friday for several hours after a water main break resulting in frozen roads, according to North Myrtle Beach officials.

The city’s spokesperson, Pat Dowling, reported the water main broke in the Town of Briarcliff Acres in Horry County.

All lanes on the road were reopened by 4 pm.

Dowling said the water covered Highway 17 and turned to ice, which caused several vehicle accidents. North Myrtle Beach Public Safety is helping Briarcliff Acres officials respond.

Earlier on Friday at Noon, only one southbound and one northbound lane on Highway 17 was open.
