UPSTATE SC (WBTW) – As one part of South Carolina continues to recover from flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew, another area is suffering from a drought. Upstate residents are being asked to conserve “non essential” use of water.
Authorities are encouraging a limit on lawn irrigation and car washing.
A Greenville Water System spokeswoman said voluntary conservation could become mandatory if drought conditions get worse.
The Upstate’s western half is classified as being in a moderate drought. The eastern half is in the earliest stage.
Lake Jocassee is 10 feet below full level.
