UPDATE: Man arrested after breaking out of work-release program and robbing Florence bank

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence Police have one person in custody after they say he escaped from Palmer pre-release center and robbed a bank Monday afternoon.

Lt. Mike Brandt with the department says officers were called to First Reliance Bank, located at 2170 West Palmetto Street, around 4:15 p.m. Monday. One person has been taken into custody, but Lt. Brandt could not immediately release that person’s name.

Lt. Brandt says Christopher Sherer was arrested in the wood-line near Second Loop Rd and Thomas Rd. Sherer faces a Bank Robbery charge.

South Carolina Department of Corrections Communication Director Jeffrey Taillon, says Christopher Sherer escaped from Palmer pre-release center, a minimum level security facility, located in Florence. Taillon says the inmate escaped around 1:24 p.m., on Oct. 30.

Lt. Brandt confirms that no one was hurt during the bank robbery.
