Two men pleaded guilty in connection to two separate armed robbery cases in Myrtle Beach, one at a dry cleaner, the other at a restaurant.
According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Jeremy Lamar Hayes pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery affecting commerce (Hobbs Act Robbery) and two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
Kennedy Boggs pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, and one count of aiding and abetting the brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence in connection to the case.
Evidence presented by Myrtle Beach police from their investigation showed that Hayes entered a Myrtle Beach dry cleaners on January 29 with a firearm and demanded money from the register and the victim’s wallet. He took the money, wallet and the victim’s cell phone.
The next day officers from the Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to an armed robbery at a restaurant where they say Hayes walked in, presented a firearm and demanded money. He took cash from the register and an employee’s cell phone. Hayes then forced employees to lay on the ground and count while he exited the store and fled in a vehicle.
After that robbery, Myrtle Beach police officers located a vehicle matching the description of the car used in the robbery. The driver, Kenney Boggs, failed to stop and after a short chase, both Boggs and Hayes were detained.
In the car, officers found clothing matching the description of clothing worn by Hayes during the robberies. Hayes’ fingerprint was also located at the scene of the restaurant robbery. Boggs admitted that she had driven Hayes to the robberies and that during the vehicle pursuit, the firearm was thrown out of the window. Officers later recovered the firearm.
Hayes and Boggs face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
