MCCOLL, SC (WBTW) – A man was arrested in North Carolina Wednesday night after a shooting at a McColl home.

Lt. Sara Alberri with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at a home on Highway 381 North. Investigators say a man “entered a home unlawfully,” although it’s not clear if or how the suspect knows the homeowner.

The suspect is identified as Tavius Witherspoon, according to Lt. Alberri. Investigators say when Witherspoon and another person entered the home, a fight broke out, leading to the homeowner and the person accompanying Witherspoon being shot.

Lt. Alberri says the homeowner and the suspect’s partner, who has not been identified, were taken to the hospital and dropped off by “the shooter,” but it is not clear if Witherspoon has been named the shooting suspect.

The homeowner is in stable condition and at last check, the second shooting victim was in critical condition, Lt. Alberri confirms.

Witherspoon was arrested in North Carolina hours after the shooting. Lt. Alberri says a warrant for first-degree burglary has been issued and other charges are pending.
