FLORENCE COUNTY (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatal crash that happened Tuesday in Scranton.
According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, two people died on scene near Creek Rd. between Florence and Olanta. One victim was Bill Welch, 67, of Turbeville. The driver of the other pickup truck has not been identified at this time.
Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of a 1998 Dodge pickup was traveling North on Highway 301 when he crossed the center line and hit a 2007 GMC pickup traveling south.
Collins says both drivers were killed in the crash.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s website, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m., at 1939 N. Jones Road off U.S. 301 in Florence County.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Florence County Coroner’s Office.
