DILLON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Dillon County authorities have two Dillon men in custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into a body and vehicle recovered from the Little Pee Dee River.

Capt. Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office told News13 the names of the men and the charges they face will be released at a later time.

Investigators arrived to a location on Pine Street just before 5 p.m. Friday. Arnette confirmed the activity was in connection to the death investigation of 30-year-old Jamal Tyree Smith, of Rowland, NC but says the men were not taken into custody there.

Smith’s body was recovered from the Little Pee Dee River last week after a car was discovered in the water off of Harllees Bridge Road.

Investigators would not say if they felt the car had been in the water for an extended period of time or if the incident recently occurred.
